Previcox (Firocoxib) - Flavoured Tablets for Pain & Inflammation Control in Dogs

Previcox is a flavoured, highly selective COX-2 inhibitor designed for dogs. It provides relief from pain and control of inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders. Previcox is also indicated for the control of post-operative pain from soft tissue, orthopaedic, or dental surgery.

Available Strengths:

  • 57 mg tablets, each containing 57 mg firocoxib.
  • 227 mg tablets, each containing 227 mg firocoxib.

Indications:

  • Relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Control of post-operative pain following soft tissue, orthopaedic, or dental surgery.

Dosage and Administration: 

Previcox is for oral administration only in dogs. Give as directed by your vet. Your veterinarian will provide guidance on the appropriate dose for your dog's weight.

Precautions: 

Before starting Previcox, it is recommended to conduct a physical examination and appropriate laboratory tests in dogs with predisposing conditions like:

  • Renal disease
  • Cardiac or vascular disease
  • Gastrointestinal disease
  • Hepatic disease

Previcox should not be used in dogs with known hypersensitivity to firocoxib.

Regular monitoring is necessary for long-term therapy, particularly for dogs with underlying health issues.

Side Effects: 

In field studies involving 292 dogs treated with Previcox for 30 days, it was well tolerated. However, adverse reactions may occur, including:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy
  • Vomiting
  • Melaena (black, tarry stools)
  • Faecal occult blood
  • Diarrhoea

If adverse reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued and contact your veterinarian. 

In long-term use, dogs should be evaluated periodically to make sure the drug is still necessary and well-tolerated.

Safety Directions:

Storage: 

Store below 30°C (Room Temperature) and keep out of the reach of children.

Disposal: 

Wrap empty packaging or unused product in paper and dispose of it with household garbage.
