Description:

This is a prescription medication. Before purchasing it, your veterinarian must have issued a prescription. Always give as directed by your veterinarian. Keep out of reach of children and pets and store as directed. This information is not intended to replace advice from your veterinarian.

Use
For treating pruritus (itching) caused by allergic dermatitis and clinical symptoms of atopic dermatitis in dogs.

Composition
Each tablet contains 3.6 mg, 5.4 mg, or 16 mg of oclacitinib (as oclacitinib maleate).

Mode of Action
Oclacitinib is an immune-modulating agent, not a steroid or NSAID. It blocks Janus Kinase (JAK) to reduce itching and inflammation from allergic skin conditions.

Dosage
Administer orally as directed by your vet. Tablets are palatable and can be given with or without food. Ensure the dog swallows the tablet. No tapering is required after stopping.

Efficacy
Provides relief from itching and is approved for both short-term and long-term use. In clinical trials, relief was noted within 1.5 hours for flea allergy dermatitis. Suitable for use alongside vaccines, shampoos, immunotherapy, antibiotics, and antifungals.

Contraindications

  • Not for dogs under 12 months or weighing under 3 kg.
  • Avoid use in pregnant, lactating dogs, or breeding males.
  • Avoid in dogs with immune suppression or hypersensitivity to oclacitinib.

Precautions
May increase the risk of infections and papillomas. Monitor for signs of infection.

Side Effects

  • Common: Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, increased thirst, fatigue, skin issues, ear infections.
  • Long-term use: May cause benign growths, urinary issues, skin infections, lipomas, and minor changes in blood tests.

Safety for Handlers
DANGER: Can cause eye and skin irritation. Wear eye protection, avoid contact, and wash hands after use.

First Aid
If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. For eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice. Contact the National Poisons Centre: 0800 764 766.
